With Real ramping up their efforts to land Bale this summer - likely for
a world record fee of over £80million - Spurs will have plenty of cash
to fund reinforcements.
And according to reports in Italy,
Tottenham's technical director Franco Baldini is set to return to his
former club Roma to try and poach starlets Pjanic and Lamela.
Italian newspaper Corriere dello Sport leads with the story on its cover today, suggesting that Spurs could even earn as much as £105m (€120m) from the sale of Bale. And
that could lead to a £44m (€50m) double bid for Pjanic and Lamela, who
have been tracked by the North-London outfit for some time.
Tottenham's
interest in 21-year-old Argentine forward Lamela pre-dates the arrival
of Baldini, who is valued at around £31m (€35m) by Roma.
Pjanic - a Bosnian international midfielder aged 23 - has also attracted interest from Arsenal, and could be available for less than £13m (€15m) this summeDespite
Lamela's higher price-tag, Pjanic could be a harder target for Andre
Villas-Boas to secure, as he recently claimed he wanted to stay in Rome.
"I don’t want to leave," said Pjanic. "Everyone here knows that."
But
Roma could be forced to accept a lucrative financial offer for the
pair, even if new boss Rudi Garcia wants both to stay at the Serie A
side.
Tottenham are due to fly out to Monaco today for a
glamorous pre-season friendly, where the future of Bale is sure to be a
hot topic of conversation whether or not he boards the flight.
