Chelsea
have reportedly ‘beaten’ Barcelona and AC Milan in the race to sign
Argentine centre-back Nicolas Otamendi according to the Daily Express.
Reports in the Spanish media state that Jose Mourinho has already won
the race to sign the FC Porto defender and that the 25 year old will
move to Stamford Bridge in the summer.
FC Porto are well known for
their penchant for bringing in top young talents and selling them for
massive profits and the Primeira Liga title holders will expect a
massive return on the £3.5m they paid Vélez Sársfield for Otamendi back
in August 2010.
Otamendi has made 109 appearances for FC Porto and
has helped the Estadio Dragao side to three successive domestic titles
as well as a Europa League triumph.
Jose Mourinho has an abundance
of top class central defenders with the Blues boss being able to call
upon John Terry, Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Branislav Ivanovic though
the former FC Porto boss seems set to welcome in Otamendi.
Mourinho’s
second spell in charge at Chelsea hasn’t started as brightly as he
would have hoped with the West London side currently sitting in fifth
spot in the Premier League table and having suffered a home defeat to FC
Basel in their Champions League opener.
