The Holland international, capped at senior level and also part of their Under-21 side at this summer's European Championships, has long been linked with a switch to Manchester United.
New manager David Moyes has confirmed that central midfield is a concern of his and Strootman is on his radar.United's interest in him dates back to two summers ago but Roma are now leading the chase to land him.And Brands says Strootman's exit is all but done."There is always a lot of interest in Dutch players by European clubs," he told De Telegraaf."The sale of Strootman is vital to the budget and the proceeds from the sale will be a figure that is equivalent to two years of participation in the Champions League."Strootman will not be playing in Europe's premier competition if he does move to Roma instead of Old Trafford, as the Serie A side finished sixth last season.
