Tottenham Hotspur wide man Gareth Bale will end up costing Spanish giants Real Madrid £200 million in total if they are able to persuade the north London club to part company with their star man this summer, according to reports in the Daily Telegraph.
Los Blancos are currently negotiating with Tottenham over the purchase of their Wales international, with the Liga outfit so far having had one word-record bid of £87 million for the playmaker turned down by the White Hart Lane side, who are believed to be demanding a fee in excess of £100m for the player.
And with the two clubs set to meet for face-to-face talks in Miami within the next 48 hours in order to thrash out terms over a deal, the 24-year-old could even be a Madrid player by as early as next week.
However, the final cost to Madrid president Florentino Perez and his club could actually be as high as £200m when Bale’s yearly salary and the high rate of tax in Spain for footballers are both taken into account.
Madrid are expected to pay Bale, who hit 26 goals in just 44 matches for Tottenham last season, a staggering £7.8m-a-year in wages across a six-year deal, and with Spanish tax laws meaning that 52 per cent of all high earners’ salaries go straight to the government, the Welshman will in effect need to be paid £300k per week just to take home his desired £150k-per-week wage.
