Arsenal have finally reached agreement with Real Madrid over a compromise deal to sign striker Gonzalo Higuain according to Sky Sports.
The North London side have been locked in talks with Real Madrid for
some weeks now but this source claims that an agreement between the two
clubs has now been reached.
The Bernabeu side had reportedly
wanted €25m (£21m) for the 25-year-old Argentine with Arsenal’s
valuation being nearer €20m (£17m) but a compromise has now seemingly
been reached for a deal in the region of £20m, which would represent a
Gunners club record.
Higuain’s father, who also acts as his agent,
was quoted as telling Fox Sports Argentina: “We have been given
permission by Real Madrid to negotiate with Arsenal.
“I will luckily be able to see my son in the Premier League soon.”
Higuain
is now reportedly set to fly into England and could complete his
long-awaited move over the weekend, but his father insists they have not
yet agreed terms with Arsenal.
“There isn’t anything signed yet, but the negotiations are very advanced,” he said.
Arsene
Wenger appears to be keen to get on with his summer spending having
been linked with a myriad of big-name players, thus far the Arsenal
boss’s only new signing has come in the form of young Auxerre striker
Yaya Sanogo.
Meanwhile the push to trim the Arsenal squad
continues apace. Denilson, Andrei Arshavin and Sebastien Squillaci have
been released whilst Vito Mannone completed a move to join Sunderland
yesterday and Johan Djourou was loaned out to Hamburg
