Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has insisted he has received no Arsenal offer for Gonzalo Higuain.
The forward was largely expected to join the Gunners in the coming
days, with terms reported to have been agreed between the player and the
club.
Higuain’s father and brother have both claimed a deal with Arsenal is
close, and it was believed all that was left to settle on was the
transfer fee.
The Gunners were understood to be willing to pay £23million, while
Real were demanding £27m, but Perez has now thrown the whole deal into
doubt with his latest claim.
‘We don’t want him [Higuain] to leave,’ said the Madrid chief.
And
besides, nobody from Arsenal has come here to present an offer for him.
Not £27 million – nothing. We have not received an offer.’
Perez’s remarks come on the same day that Arsenal’s bid for Liverpool’s Luis Suarez was revealed.
The Gunners reportedly had a £30m for the Reds’ frontman rejected,
while Real, who have also been heavily linked, have yet to play their
hand.
When asked about Suarez and Edinson Cavani, Perez said: ‘We have not made an offer for either of them.’
It has been suggested that Arsenal’s Suarez bid was a ploy to force Madrid into selling them Higuain.
