Tottenham have been given new hope in their pursuit of Real Madrid youngster Jese Rodriguez, report Sky Sports News.
The North London club, along with Manchester City have been tracking
the young star over the past year in hope of securing a deal to sign the
Spaniard. Rodriguez has admitted that he may have to search for a new
club this summer if he is not guaranteed a more prominent role in the
Madrid line-up next term.
The 20-year old forward scored 22 goals
last season in the Segunda division with the Castilla side, and also was
heavily impressive during Spain’s U20 World Cup campaign which ended
prematurely. Regarded as one of Spain’s hottest young prospects,
Rodriguez’s current deal expires at the end of the 2013/14 season.
Tottenham
are readying a bid for the talented young attacker, believed to be in
the region of £8.5million as Andre Villas-Boas continues his squad
make-over ahead of the upcoming season, where they aim to finally secure
a Top 4 finish. Jese recently spoke about his future at Madrid.
“I
don’t know what the club wants with me. I assume they will want to
offer me a renewal but I don’t know what I will do. I’m not going to lie
about it,” he told Marca prior to their World Cup exit.
“I am
calm about my future. I’ve had a good season and I’m doing well at the
World Cup now. I’m relaxed. Once the World Cup is over, we’ll open talks
to discuss my future.”
