There are reports in the Spanish media that claim French champions PSG are willing to meet the €63m release clause fee for Napoli striker Edinson Cavani.
According to AS, after a meeting was conducted between the striker’s agent and PSG sporting director Leonardo, they are close to agreeing on a deal to seal the move.
Newly appointed coach Laurent Blanc had suggested during his official unveiling that he would love to work with the 26-year-old, and it is understood that PSG have now raised their offer to match that of the release clause.
Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis has maintained throughout the transfer saga that the Uruguayan would not leave for anything less than the €63m fee.
It would appear that the Ligue 1 champions are set to become the first club to satisfy that requirement, putting them in pole position to land the star’s signature.
Both Chelsea and Real Madrid remain interested, and it is unclear as to whether PSG’s move will spark them into action in order to match their bid.
Reports in the English media suggested earlier this week that Cavani had agreed personal terms with Chelsea, but with no agreement between the two clubs it would be impossible for him to complete a move to Stamford Bridge.
While Cavani may well arrive in Paris, it is understood that while he will be reunited with former team-mate Ezequiel Lavezzi, Zlatan Ibrahahimovic will not be around as he looks to follow Carlo Ancelotti to Madrid after reportedly being unhappy with Blanc’s appointment.
