Portuguese paper Record have a big story for Manchester United fans
this Monday claiming that the Red Devils are poised to sign Benfica
defender Ezequiel Garay for €20m.
According to Record, Garay is leaving Benfica for Manchester United
after the clubs shook hands on a gentleman’s agreement at the beginning
of the year.
Whilst the deal is still not iron-clad, Record stress that the
departure of Sir Alex Ferguson from Old Trafford seems hugely unlikely
to mean that Garay’s move to Manchester will be spoiled. Moreover, the
Red Devils have beaten the likes of Barcelona for the Argentine
defender’s signature.
Should the deal come to pass, David Moyes will be acquiring a top notch defender at Old Trafford.
Garay is widely considered to be one of the best defenders in
Portugal, and although the 26-year-old is not the fastest player ever
seen, his football brain means the centre-half is rarely caught out of
position. Garay has been earmarked as a replacement for Rio Ferdinand.
