With Bayern ruled out, Barcelona, Chelsea & Man United set to bid for Lewandowski
Speculation has begun that one of Europe’s top clubs will swoop for the Polish striker and this morning Barcelona, Chelsea and Manchester United have all been linked.
Comments by Borussia Dortmund CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke appear to have opened up the options for Robert Lewandowski this summer.
Watzke told Bild: “Robert Lewandowski will definitely not transfer to Bayern Munich in 2013. This is final. We have informed Robert and his advisors. The Bayern case is closed because there was no written offer.”
With just one year left on his Borussia Dortmund contract, Bayern appeared increasingly confident of snatching another Dortmund star after pulling off the coup of bringing Mario Gotze to the Allianz Arena.
Watzke also said: “I am not saying he will definitely stay but he will certainly not be playing for Bayern in 2013. Everything else will be discussed with Robert and his advisors in the coming days. Our wish is for Robert to play for Borussia Dortmund next season.”
Sport suggest that Barcelona are keen on Lewandowski. According to the Catalan paper, the Barca hierarchy see the 24-year-old striker as a perfect foil for Lionel Messi and Neymar.
Chelsea and Manchester United are also believed to be interested since Lewandowski had his heart set on a move to Bayern but will now likely consider a move to the Premier League.
The Daily Mail also suggest Manchester United will move for Lewandowski whilst new Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho was on the receiving end of his four-goal haul in the Champions League semi-final first leg against Real Madrid.
Dortmund are believed to be unwilling to sell Lewandowski to anyone but Bayern for less than 30 million euros so expect the likes of Real Madrid and PSG to also be linked in the coming days
