Liverpool are expected to complete the £6 million capture of Sevilla midfield player Luis Alberto Romero within the next 48 hours, reports the Independent.
The young Spain Under-21 international should be arriving on Merseyside imminently to undergo a medical and discuss personal terms, although first the Merseyside giants must meet his club’s asking price for the player.
However, that is not expected to be an issue, with the two parties understood to be relatively close to concluding their negotiations, with the Liga side wanting a fee of £6m for the 20-year-old, who has a contract with Sevilla that runs until the summer of 2015.
Alberto, who is expected to provide competition for places in midfield for the Reds next season, especially in the wide areas where Liverpool have struggled badly for creativity in recent campaigns, has made only seven appearances in total for his club since 2011, and has failed to find the back of the net as yet.
And Sevilla sporting direct Ramon Verdejo did confirm that Liverpool’s interest in their player was “real but nothing is signed.
“I recall that a fuss was made when we loaned him out. As it stands, we all agree that he now has a better value in the market and has grown as a footballer.
“Is it a good deal to sell him for the figures they speak of? The offer we have on the table is a very good one with respect to where Luis is currently. To date, we haven’t accepted the offer.”
