Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is hoping to tie up a deal for French under-21 ace Gilbert Imbula of Guingamp this summer, according to the Mirror.
Wenger has been a known fan of the 20-year-old for some time and considered making a move for him in the January transfer window but a move failed to materialise.
A number of fellow big clubs had also been interested with Chelsea and Lyon also taking an interest but Arsenal are the only ones thought to be willing to match Guingamp’s £8 million valuation of the player.
The defensive midfielder would certainly fill a gap that desperately needs plugging in the Arsenal squad and he is apparently sweet on a move to the Premier League and whilst Wenger has the cash to spend on big name signings, he is also keen to bring in a number of future prospects to the club too.
Imbula was born in Belgium to Congolese parents but moved to France at a young age and even has a French passport. He is eligible to play for any of the three country’s but has already turned out for France’s under-21 side.
He first broke into the Guingamp side in 2009 and has gone on to make over 90 appearances for them, scoring four goals.
