Guarin was a member of the Porto side that won a memorable
treble under Villas-Boas back in 2011 before initially being loaned to
Inter Milan and then joining the Italians on a permanent deal worth
around £11.5m.
The Colombia international started 26 league games last season but it
was a disappointing campaign for Inter Milan who eventually lost
patience with manager Andrea Stramaccioni and replaced him with former
Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri.
Reports in Italy and in the Daily Express believe that Tottenham want to profit from the situation at Inter and will make an offer of £17m for the powerful midfielder.
Tottenham do have plenty of options in midfield but there have been
question marks over the future of Scott Parker, Jake Livermore and Tom
Huddlestone who suggested he may leave in order to find more regular first team action.
Guarin
has the ability to break up play in midfield but he can also start and
finish attacks, as demonstrated at Porto where he scored some truly
spectacular goals.
Inter president Massimo Moratti is said to be
willing to listen to offers for Guarin so that the club can pursue
their pursuit of Juventus' Mauricio Isla and former out of contract AC
Milan midfielder Matthieu Flamini.
Guarin would certainly bring plenty of top level experience having
played in the Champions League for Porto, whilst also having a winning
mentality after helping the Portuguese club win the league title and the
Europa League.
He is also a member of an exciting Colombian side that features some
of the brightest talents in world football with James Rodriguez, Radamel
Falcao and Jackson Martinez all making headlines with their
performances across Europe last season.
Spurs will hope that Guarin's success under Villas-Boas may persuade
the midfielder to choose a move to Spurs despite the club missing out on
Champions League football.
