Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis has confirmed that Rafael Benitez is on the verge of becoming the club’s new manager.
According to reports in the Italian media, De Laurentiis told
reporters, “I’ve given myself a birthday gift, I’ve signed Benitez. I’ll
make it official in the next few days as Benitez needs to end things
with Chelsea. He’ll have a two-year contract, no longer. We need to get
to know each other first, then we’ll see.”
Chelsea interim manager Rafael Benitez is currently in the United
States as Chelsea prepare for their match tomorrow against Manchester
City at Yankee Stadium. Benitez’s contract at Chelsea is set to expire
next week.
If De Laurentiis is able to convince Benitez to put pen to paper, do
you think it’s a wise move for Benitez? And what will that mean to the
Premier League clubs who are looking for a new manager (Everton and
Stoke City)? Tell us your opinions in the comments section below.
