Manchester United have been linked with a sensational swoop for former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas, who could leave Barcelona this summer. According to the London Evening Standard, the Spanish playmaker is seen as an ideal replacement for Paul Scholes, who is set to retire at the end of the season.
The 26-year-old has grown unsettled at the Nou Camp this season, after falling out of favour with manager Tito Vilanova, and a return to Arsenal had been mooted for the Spaniard, as they have first refusal on their former player.
£20million could be enough to sign Fabregas, and it would be a great coup for new United manager David Moyes to improve on the club’s current midfielders. The likes of Tom Cleverley and Anderson do not look like providing enough in the way of assists from the middle of the park, and several other playmakers have been linked with the club as long-term replacements for Scholes.
