Official: Milan sign Zapata
Milan have confirmed that signing of Villarreal defender Cristian Zapata on a three-year deal.
The Colombia international had been on loan at the Rossoneri last term from the Spanish club, playing in 23 League games.
Milan boss Massimiliano Allegri and Vice President Adriano Galliani praised Cristian Zapata and Philippe Mexes for their good performances in the passing season and Zapata, who played for Milan on loan from Villarreal, is set for a stay.
Zapata’s arrival came as a surprise last summer as Zapata’s name was not mentioned too often in the press with regards to Milan, but the former Udinese man played well enough to convince Milan to buy him out from the Spanish club.
A.C. Milan wishes to communicate that they have made the signing of Cristian Zapata from Villarreal permanent. The defender’s contract will go up to 30 June 2016,” a statement on Milan’s official website reads on Thursday. It’s likely that Milan negotiated a lower price for Zapata than what was agreed back in the summer (reports suggested around €5m).
Milan have signed two players for next season: Riccardo Saponara and Jherson Vergara, and have also extended the contracts of Christian Abbiati and Daniele Bonera. Milan are expected to bring in more players, while some will also leave
