Arsenal are said to have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign
talented Argentine striker Gonzalo Higuain this summer according to
Spanish source Sport.es.
The 25 year old forward is set to leave the Bernabeu this summer,
with the La Liga giants confirming his imminent exit, and now it appears
he is North London bound with a five year deal already said to be
agreed with the former River Plate ace.
Higuain has struggled to
retain a foothold in the Real Madrid starting eleven since Jose Mourinho
took over at the club and has this season managed just 17 La Liga
starts out of a possible 36 though still netting a very healthy 14 goals
in the process.
Arsene Wenger may well be keen on strengthening
his attack with recent signings Olivier Giround and Lukas Podolski
perhaps not scoring as regularly as the Gunners boss would’ve hoped for.
Neither has able replaced Robin Van Persie’s prolific presence with the
pair managing 20 Premier League goals between them.
Higuain has
spent seven seasons at Real Madrid and in 2009/10 managed to outscore
Cristiano Ronaldo, managing 27 La Liga goals during Manuel Pellegrini’s
sole season in charge of the club.
Mourinho has favoured Karim
Benzema as his starting striker and even though the Portuguese boss is
said to be set to leave Real Madrid this summer it seems Higuain is not
keen on sticking around to see if his replacement is more likely to give
him the chance to shine.
