Arsenal have been linked with a move for £12million Juventus right-back Stephan Lichtsteiner, according to Forza Italian Football.
The Gunners are on the lookout for a new
right-back this summer, as they fear they will lose contract rebel
Bacary Sagna to PSG. They have also been linked with Daryl Janmaat of
Feyenoord and Manchester City’s Micah Richards.
Lichtsteiner
has been an impressive former for the Serie A champions, showing some
strong displays both at right-back and in midfield, and his versatility
and attacking quality from the back is said to appeal to Arsenal manager
Arsene Wenger.
The 29-year-old is also
experienced, having played for a number of years in Serie A, winning
titles with Juventus and playing with Lazio, and he is also a full
Switzerland international, with 56 caps for the national side.
However,
if Sagna is to leave the club, the Gunners may consider a more
long-term replacement for the 30-year-old Frenchman, and Janmaat and
Richards are 23 and 24 respectively, much younger than Lichtsteiner.
£12million may also prove too expensive for Arsenal, who don’t have a great recent history of spending big money on strengthening their squad.
