A crazy set of photographs were made public on Sunday night as Italian police seized home-made axes and knives before Coppa Italia final.
The Italian cup final was always likely to be a deadly affair as capital rivals Roma and Lazio faced-off in the winner-takes-all showpiece.
When the Rome rivals last met in April, six fans were stabbed and an ambulance was attacked by rioting supporters. Moreover, ahead of Sunday night’s final, three Lazio players were said to have received death threats, with one of the threats said to have been aimed at the player’s daughter.
With that as the backdrop, violence was always expected at the Stadio Olimpico, however police managed to head-off a potential bloodbath when the captured a large cache of homemade weapons before kick-off.
Pick-axes, sticks with blades on the end of them and similar instruments with knives attached were found by police near to the stadium before kick off.
Images of the weapons can be seen below.
