Brazil superstar Neymar has turned down an offer from Real Madrid that
would have hit €100million because he has his heart set on being Lionel Messi’s
teammate at Barcelona.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was ready to pull out all the stops and invest as much as €100million to land the Santos forward, according to Spanish newspaper Sport. Neymar is tipped to be one of world football’s biggest stars when the 2014 World Cup goes to Brazil and the report claims Barcelona already have a pre-contract agreement in place with him.
A combination of Lionel Messi and Neymar at Barcelona will be a frightening prospect for their opponents and the Santiago Bernabeu chief was ready to bid big in order to pip his rivals at Camp Nou.
The report claims Perez was ready to make the 21-year-old the second highest earner at Real Madrid behind only Cristiano Ronaldo.
He was also prepared to hand Neymar an unprecedented image rights deal, with the income ratio being 70/30 in his favour – a huge deviation from the 50/50 that is the norm at the club, even for Ronaldo.
Barcelona have reportedly already agreed a fee with Santos for the transfer of Neymar but the los Blancos moneymen were ready to double that fee, according to the report.
The whole package would eventually cost Real Madrid in excess fo €100million, an indication that they are looking for a new superstar to become the face of Real Madrid.
However, none of this matters as the report claims Neymar has already made up his mind and rejected the advances to stick with Barcelona.
